Here we are again, another Friday Night in Winslow!

So I don't know what most people do on Friday nights, I mean, really we're too old to go out to clubs and stay out drinking and partying all night.  I know, you're only as old as you feel, and while I don't feel like a little old lady who should sit at home and knit, I also feel grown up enough to not do stupid or unsafe things anymore.

Like I've said before, there's not really anything to do on a Friday night here in Winslow, so we're often left to our own creativity.  While you may think we're nuts for some of the things we find ourselves doing, I think there's peace and serenity in knowing that no matter what we do on a Friday night, we're enjoying ourselves.

So if we're filling 2-Liter bottles with rice or water for long term storage, or if we're working on remodeling our house, or if we decide that we've worked hard enough all week and that we are just going to settle down with a good book or play an old fashioned board game, there's really just no better feeling than to look around you and feel content and happy in that moment.

It's not easy, definitely something that takes a huge amount of work to get to, BUT when you get to the point where you can sit back and take it all in, appreciate the work you've done, know you are with your soul mate, know that you are who you are, and where you are, for a reason, then that's paradise.  That's what it's about.

Goodnight all-
Christina and Damon

Friday Night in Winslow......

So it was a really long week.  I came home on Friday and immediately went to the couch. I laid down and put on the latest Netlfix DVD that we had, the Charles Dickens classic, Little Dorrit.  It's the British miniseries starring Matthew MacFadyen (Mr. Darcy from the latest Pride and Prejudice) and Claire Foy as Little Dorrit.

Like I said, it was  a really long week.... We didn't do anything but make some homemade Chicken Pot Pie from scratch, drank some of the recipe, and after the movie, we climbed the stairs, passed out, and had a good nights sleep.

I keep telling you... it's a Friday Night in Winslow, what are ya gonna do?

Friday, January 11th, 2013

So ladies and gentlemen, it's another Friday Night in Winslow.....

And what did we do on Friday night?

Attempting to fulfill my duties as Treasurer at Winslow Community Meals ( I sit on the Board of Directors there), I brought home a slew of miscellaneous paperwork, tax papers, payroll, Arkansas Workforce crap, etc.  I spent a good couple of hours, after working an 8 hour day at my job, trying to figure out how non-profit taxes work.  I found myself having more questions than answers (this is the first year I've ever attempted to do the taxes at Meals).  Don't get me wrong, I'm an intelligent person, I do my own personal taxes every year, but I've never done non-profit taxes before, so I am learning as I go! And if that isn't tricky enough, consider the politics involved in not only working for a non-profit agency, but also volunteering at another one....Whew!

Finally, I decided that I needed to tend to some household things... hmmm, what to rope Damon into???

It's 8PM and we haven't started dinner yet.  I haven't finished the load of laundry I started before I went to work today.  I haven't even gone out to say hello to my furry faced children (our three dogs, Lady, Strider, and Molly Brown).

In spite all of those things needing to be done, I decide that we are going to sort 2 big bags of dry red beans and store them in an extra large Mason jar!

Dry beans come mixed with some pebbles most of the time, don't cha know!  Honestly, I never even knew that bags of beans from the store might have rocks in them.  Growing up, we always had beans out of a can, so raw, uncooked, beans were a different animal for me, but Damon insisted that we "sort" the beans before we stored them, because of the rocks in the bag!  So, a glass of The Recipe in hand, we decided to have a little contest!

That's right folks, we had two 2 pound bags of red beans and we decided we should have a little race..... We thought, being a quite Friday Night in Winslow, what else is there to do but have ourselves a little Bean Sorting Party!

That's right, we decided to see which one of us could pull all of the rocks, along with all of the nasty looking broken or shrivelled up beans, out of a 2Lb. bag of beans first!

It was a tie!  I know, it's disappointing, I usually kick ass, but Damon is a fierce competitor (he's still mad that I kicked his ass at both Monopoly and Risk the last two times we played!!!) and now he's bringing a new game to our little competitions that we find ourselves sponsoring in little Ol' Winslow on Friday nights!!

Until next time,

Love,

Christina

Friday Night in Winslow, yet again!

Boy this week was tough, I had to go back to work on Wednesday after 14 straight days off!!  I sooo needed the break and wasn't ready to go back, but who ever is ready to go back to work after a vacation?

Anyway, I came home from work with every intention of going up to my bed, kicking off my shoes, and watching some TV and not moving from that spot for the rest of the evening.  Assuming of course, I could have somehow talked Damon into making dinner and serving it to me in bed.  Don't hate ladies, he has been known to serve me breakfast in bed on occasion, so this wouldn't have been a stretch.

At any rate, no matter how lazy my intentions were, I found myself wanting to finish a sewing project that I started at least 6 months ago.  A lousy apron and it takes me that long!  To be fair, I wanted it to be super cute and different so I attempted this without a pattern.  I just went to Hobby Lobby, picked myself out some fabrics that went with our "fat chef" inspired kitchen motif, and went to work!  Well, obviously I didn't get right to work but I did start almost immediately!  So several hours and even more glasses of "the recipe"* later, I was done! Sure there are a few minor flaws that I'm woman enough to admit, for example, one pocket is slightly larger than the other and the same pocket is a little crooked, but hey, it's not too shabby for my first apron!  I also got started on one for Damon (it will be more manly, I assure you) but then I got tired, so I'm sure you'll hear all about that adventure in another six months or so!

By the way, when I finished my sewing, I joined Damon on the couch for some old reruns of Home Improvement.  Still, a very entertaining show if I do say so myself!

This is the extent of entertainment in Winslow, what else can I say???

*"The Recipe" is the term we coined for Vodka and Seltzer with a dash of Lime Juice... because that's how we roll in Winslow!  And to paint an even clearer picture, we call it that to pay homage to The Waltons, an old 70's TV show that featured two old spinsters who brewed their own moonshine from their papa's old "recipe".
