Alex Haley: "In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future."

As for our Best Picture Oscar winning movie marathon!  This week we watched Slumdog Millionaire (2008) which was actually pretty good, we weren't really expecting it to be but we both liked it. Next up we watched The Hurt Locker (2009), another pretty good movie. You so couldn't pay me enough to do what those dudes do for a living!

Since we've finished up our other old TV shows we've been binge watching and it's another 6 hundred years until the Walking Dead returns, we started binge watching House M.D..  I watched it when it was on but it took me awhile to sell Damon on it before he started watching, so we thought we'd watch them all from the beginning. Who doesn't love themselves some Greg House???

We've got some of my family coming out tomorrow for a birthday party for our July babies, my sister, Jennifer AKA "Red" and brother James. Looking forward to seeing them and getting to spend some quality family time!

Since I'm late getting this posted, I get to add photo's to our Saturday birthday party.....Check them out!

Until next time!

J. R. R. Tolkien - The Fellowship of the Ring: "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

So I spent the week in Arizona, where it's hot as hell but it's "a dry heat", I don't know who says that or why because hot is hot and it's HOT there!  It's been over 100 degrees everyday and while it's not as humid as it usually is Arkansas and Oklahoma, it's STILL HOT!

Last night I went outside and was sweating from just standing still outside, it was after 10PM and it had only dropped from 108 to 100, that's hot, dry or not.... and I wasn't so dry standing there. lol

I did get the chance to visit with my aunt and cousins that live in Arizona so I'm really thankful for that, here's a few pics!

Anyway, after hours and hours of waiting, standing, waiting, sitting, flying and so on, I am finally home!  Damon was sweet, he printed up a little sign that said "MAPLES" and was waiting for me when I landed at the Fort Smith airport.

As you can imagine, I am absolutely beat, all the waiting, flying, and time change just took it right out of me!

Happy Friday Winslow, glad to be home!

Socrates: "Beware the barrenness of a busy life."

It's been a super busy week; things are getting crazy-busy at work because school is getting closer and closer to starting, I'm headed to a week long conference on Monday, and my boss is going to be out for a week too.  Throw in a family birthday party and just the day to day stuff and our volunteer obligations and we've got another crazy few weeks ahead of us.

Like I said, I'm going to be out of town next week so tonight is just about trying to relax and not stress, while getting ready for a trip!

As for our Best Picture Oscar winning movie marathon!  This week we watched Crash (2005) which was a really good movie. They did an awesome job putting all the different stories in the movie together.  A lot of good acting too, one of my favorite parts is when Ludacris tries to rob Terrence Howard's car!  If you haven't seen it, you should!  Next up we watched The Departed (2006), packed with good music, Boston accents, and great actors.  I  HATE the ending but the movie is really good so check it out!  Lastly, we watched No Country for Old Men (2007), it was an okay movie, Damon liked it more than me but it wasn't as bad as some of the others we've subjected ourselves to during this list!

That's all for me, back to wine drinking and packing for my trip!

Happy Friday!

Fourth of July - 2015

.....And another not so Friday Night in Winslow for you.  As you may know by now, Damon and I serve as on the Board of Directors for a small non-profit here in Winslow and we have one of our fundraisers tonight!  We serve food at the concession stand at the ballpark (where they do their firework display), all proceeds go to our little non-profit.  So, we worked the closing shift and got to serve/cashier/shut down and pack up.  It all went well and we got it all wrapped up before the fireworks display!

We are even closer to the end of our Best Picture Oscar winning movie marathon!  This week we watched Chicago (2002) which I remember being a REALLY big deal but honestly, after watching it, I still don't get it.  I've said repeatedly that we aren't big musical fans but I do try my best to appreciate the good ones.  This one was okay, I think the entire cast is overrated and that didn't help matters. If you don't like musicals but want to give one a try, I'd say go with Jesus Christ Superstar or Phantom of the Opera.  Anyway, next up we watched The Lord of the Rings, the Return of the King (2003), even if your not a fan of Tolkien or even into fantasy type movies, I don't know how you can't just get into these movies.  We of course watched all three, not just the last one that won the Oscar.  Lastly, we watched Million Dollar Baby (2004) and with no happy ending, I kinda thought it sucked but if I forget about the horrible ending, I guess I could say it was okay movie, not one I'll likely watch again but it was okay.

Happy Fourth of July Everyone!

Confucius: "Wherever you go, go with all your heart."

Another not so Friday Night in Winslow for you here.  Damon's parents had some free hotel stays at the Hard Rock in Tulsa so we decided we'd take advantage before they expired and go to T-town for the weekend!  We had a late Father's Day lunch and then some of us headed to the casino for some gambling.  Sadly, none of us won but we didn't lose too big either.

After, we got some dinner and then went for a midnight swim and a trip to the bar before bed.  We had a great time!

Oh, and just to keep  you up to date on our Best Picture Oscar winning movie marathon, we watched Gladiator (2000) which had Russell Crowe in it, Damon doesn't like him for some reason but I did like this movie.  I get that he was probably a little overrated back in 2000 but still, I think he's a pretty good actor.  We also watched A Beautiful Mind (2001), another Russell Crowe movie lol!  We'd both seen this before and Damon wasn't looking forward to it but he had to admit, it was better than he remembered.

Happy weekend to all, from Tulsa!!!!

Orson Welles: "If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story."

We have a busy day of house and yard work tomorrow so tonight, we're just going to relax.  We played out in the yard with the dogs for a bit and we're settling in for pizza and movies.  Damon is making us the pizza at home.  He's getting quite good at it too!

We watched some more of our Best Picture Oscar winning movies earlier this week, we watched The English Patient (1996) which had a lot of great cast members but the movie was just a bit too slow for us.  We also watched Titanic (1997), another great movie! I don't know how anyone hasn't seen the movie but if you haven't, it's worth watching, Leonardo DiCaprio is awesome in pretty much everything.  Last, we watched Shakespeare in Love (1998), I'm sorry, the movie is just not that good.  It had a couple parts that were cute/funny but overall, I am not a fan.

Anyway, pizza is done and now we're going to watch American Beauty (1999), which I have seen before and don't recall really liking but, it's on the list so here we go!

Happy Friday Night From Winslow!!!!

Mark Twain: "Heaven goes by favor.  If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in."

We watched a few more of our Best Picture Oscar winning movies this week, we watched Schindler's List (1993) which is a great movie about a horrific time in history.  If you haven't watched it, you definitely should!  We watched Forrest Gump (1994), another great movie!  You must be living under a rock if you've never seen this and if you've seen it and didn't like it, something is wrong with you.  Tom Hanks is always awesome and this is not different.  Last, we watched Braveheart (1995), another really good  movie even if Mel Gibson is a nutbag.

We had Strider's 11th birthday this week!  Of course, the doggies got can food, wore birthday hats at least for a minute until they figured out how to get them off, and we ran around and played in the yard together.  Yeah, if you haven't noticed, we are dog lovers!

Check out these pictures of our boy's birthday party......

Happy birthday to our furry faced baby boy!
